For years I avoided the consumeristic side of Christmas. I lived overseas for a big chunk of my life so it was easy to go bush, or just work through and avoid the commercialism of it all. Now, with a child, I have worked hard at bringing meaning into the season with community work, creating rich traditions, making or thrifting gifts where I can. I try and have our days reflect that time in nature and feeling connected to those you love are really the best gifts of all.
My thoughts go out to all of those who are challenged by this time of year too. I had alcoholism, and drug addiction sitting at my table today and it is hard to watch people you love walk that path. For some reason it seems harder in the holiday season. That’s kind of up for me tonight.
Whether you celebrate Solstice, Yule, Christmas, something else entirely or do your best to ignore the green and red season, thanks for being part of GrowMama. I love having you here. May your days bring you peace. x
